From the historic single houses of South of Broad to the contemporary condominiums of the Upper Peninsula, Charleston's kitchen renovation market is one of the most design-forward in the Southeast. Historic district kitchens often involve preservation-aware material choices and the Board of Architectural Review; newer downtown properties allow for the full contemporary kitchen vocabulary. Summerville's high-growth new construction market creates two distinct kitchen renovation types: post-close upgrades on new builds where the builder selection was bypassed in favor of superior products installed after closing, and renovation of established homes where original kitchens from the 1980s and 1990s are being replaced.
